Okay

With the holidays and whatnot here, I haven't had much time for crafting.  That, and I currently have an XBL subscription, so I was working on beating Fable 3. *slacker* i know.

GLITCH is the name of the game

Okay okay okay, this has nothing to do with crafting, but with my other obsession, gaming.

I'm not one of those "hurr durr i'm a GAMER GYRRRL so BACK OFF." because thats just annoying. I don't identify myself as a "girl gamer" just "a gamer." To give you an idea, I played Uncharted 2 for around 7 hours straight. I'm a trophy hunter, & I have really particular tastes in games.  I *HATE* with a passion (as was addressed in my first blog entry) motion controlled games. No, development community, contrary to popular belief I do not want to get off my ass and play a game.  I would much rather sit on the couch and eat potato chips while smashing buttons and killin' zombies. ;] I also do NOT enjoy rock band-style games.  I don't have the coordination to play the drums, I don't really enjoy being a guitar hero, so I'll usually just sing (POORLY, and I usually apologize in advance if i'm sober) Speaking of being sober in conjunction with Rock Band, I generally need one or two or seventeen drinks to even have it suggested to me.  Matthew will say "LETS PLAY ROCK BAND" if we are all bored, and generally I'll just say no thank you.. but, if you put some drinks into my system, I will jam all night.

Its not a game I would just pick up and play -- its really not that fun.  But this isn't a blog about what I like in a game.. its a blog about what really pisses me off -- GLITCHES.

Costume Break

Had to take a break from costuming.. needed the guys home for measuring (they have been at work &/or busy.) and my measuring tape has mysteriously disappeared in the move. I'm pretty annoyed about that.. but i guess that just means i'll have to go to Joanne's to get a new one.  So for the past couple of days I made 2 bags and a knitting needle roll.

After all day of trying to figure out the *how* I just decided to go ahead and jump headfirst into this costume..

I'm really impressed with how it turned out! it is far from perfect, but it looks pretty decent!! I cant wait for Daniel to finish work tonight so he can try it on & i can get some pictures of him in costume! :]~

On a side note, I realized that my head is tremendously huge.. I knew that my head was shaped weird .. (it has a weird.. hump (?) in it.. but i honestly had no idea that it was gigantic. so.. i apologize to everyone that has ever had to sit behind me..

Anyway, i tried to try the mask on myself... when i realized it wouldn't go over my weird humped head.. :/ i fixed it so that it would fit over my head.. hopefully it will fit over daniel's head too! :// If not.. i left some seams open so that i could make adjustments.. plus the base snaps on with velcro.. i decided a zipper would be too binding. I'll post my sketch also, so the vision can really come to life. This has been my most challenging piece so far.. i had literally no idea where to start.. & no pattern.. I found pictures of cosplay, but they looked too... cartoony? and some not quite finished enough? Anyway, no pattern, no plan, just a cartoon & I think i was able to achieve it!

The fact that probably nobody will have any idea who he is... well.. i guess that's just the price you pay. Did I mention the costume only cost around 2 bucks? I bought a grey fabric remnant (Appx: .818 of a yd) & still have some leftover fabric! That being said, i picked the most retarded fabric imaginable. its... sort of spandex-y & kept getting caught in the machine. That being said, at least its breathable. :]~

I'm so proud that i finally finished it!!! heres what i used to make it:
Two yellow tee shirts from JoAnne's one in a youth large, and one in an extra large.. From that I made the body of the hoodie and the two sleeves. :]] Then I used fuzzy yellow fabric lined with brown cotton fabric for the hood.. and the fuzzy yellow fabric also for the sleeves. The brown from the lining i used for the stipes on the back.. and fuzzy yellow & brown for the tail!
I didn't add pockets, i'll have to do that on the next hoodie i make. :]] The only problem was that i bought a "COAT" jacket from JoAnnes, thinking that it would separate.. but it doesnt.. so i still have to pull the hoodie over my head. its okay though.. i know better for next time. :]]~

its actually kind of sad.  Anyway, my favorite pokemon are the dark-type pokemon.. but not many people are pokenerds like i am, so i decided to stick with a more "recognizable" pokemon -- PIKACHU! (for some reason, i feel like i need to type pikachu in caps. lol)

haven't had much time to work on my quilt. actually, i haven't had any time to work on it... i've been really busy babysitting. i haven't been around kids very much.. my brother is 5 years younger than me, so when he was a kid, so was I.  it has been an interesting learning experience for me, but overall it has been enjoyable. :]] the kids are 11 and 5, so i'm trying to come up with fun things for both of them to do.  i hate putting kids in front of the TV.  its fine for background noise, but overall the tv sucks out your creativity.

if you know me, you know my passion is crafting.  especially: sewing, embroidery, and jewelry making.  that's what i've been teaching. :]]

tonight, I think i'm going to get back to working on my quilt.  i really want to finish it for matthew.. he wants to join the airforce, so I want him to have a quilt from home. :]]

As I said last time, i decided to do the impossible task of creating a quilt. so i decided to share my work in progress, maybe to inspire someone else to make a quilt. it is pretty time consuming and challenging, but overall it is totally worth the work.  i can see my quilt coming together nicely, and it just pushes me to keep going. :]

my new craft is quilting.  I have so many different patterns for teeshirt quilts, and i had decided i wanted to make one.. how hard could it be, right? my grandma makes quilts pretty much weekly, so i figured it wouldn't be challenging...

98% of my soul is music

i say things like.. music is my life.. i would die without music.. i love music.. many people think this means i am some kind of a musician.. "oh what do you play?" is usually what people say when i make that comment. i can play a little piano? is what i say. i wish i could play more piano.. but i didnt appreciate my mom giving me piano lessons when i was a kid. i just wanted to go play outside.. not play the piano.  my mom is an amazing piano player [although she would never admit that. so ill say it for her.]  i think i have an appreciation for classical because of my mother.  if she sees a piano, she will want to play it.. i mean, me too.. but im not good. 

one memory that i have is from va beach,, we were staying in a hotel and in the lobby-area there was a grand piano sitting there.. nobody was around, so my mom started playing fur elise. [which is one of my favorite songs] i wish i could play piano.. or be able to sit down and just play one song.

NEW GOAL

everyone that knows me, knows that i have a new goal, or new life mission every 20 minutes. i'm always coming up with something that i *really* want to do.. or a new plan of attack.. or something new creatively that i want to work on.

i like to think that i'm pretty creative. i love to draw and paint and sew and create. i really pride myself on my creativity. i know one of my strong points is to be able to look at something and see what it can be, not just what it is.

for anyone that doesnt know.. we have a new game in our house and that game is MAG.

What is MAG? most importantly, MAG is a fiance stealer.  this is quite shocking to me. daniel and i both have a love of video games, but i have never seen him love a video game this much... i dont think i have loved anything to the point that i lose all track of time and reality. i swear, last night i heard "oh, we're only playing one more round" for about 2 hours. [the battles only last around 15 to 20 minutes.]  not to mention, planning a strategy with his teammates over a blue tooth headset. i swear to god he missed his calling. he is very good at ordering people around.

what is MAG really? its a massive war game. its 256 players fighting in all out war. it is the most ridiculously hard thing i have ever played. i consider myself a gamer. i love video games and i am fairly decent at most games i play.. this game though.. too much insanity for me. daniel will ask as hes starting the game "oh did you want to play?" hoping/knowing i'll respond with a no thanks.  i have played all of three times i think. it is much harder than i thought it would be.

dear planet earth, I'm Sorry. XOXO mindy.

something has been bothering me for a while now.. and i guess im just now getting around to addressing it.
the planet is in such a sad state. i look around at parking lots and empty buildings and think "those used to be trees many many years ago." we are ruining this planet, and it makes me unhappy. we wonder why things happen, and its because of us. we are causing these awful things to happen to our planet, because we are disrupting the natural process of things.

one thing that drives me crazy is: "if global warming is real, then why is it so cold right now?!" first of all, global warming is climate change. climate change is extreme temperature changes in hot and cold. secondly, just because it is cold here, doesnt mean it is cold everywhere. there is an entire OTHER HEMISPHERE that is experiencing extreme heat right now.  the planet earth is not just the united states, contrary to what many people believe. if the temperature here shifts to hot, then obviously the cold will shift as well.. and now that it is record lows HERE, expect record HIGHs on the OTHER HALF OF THE PLANET.

is global warming real? yes. climate change is real.  Climate change IS a natural part of the environment, HOWEVER, humans aren't helping our planet out at all. we NEED to take care of the environment. many people believe global warming is bullshit and just another form of government control.. but here's the thing.. we OBVIOUSLY cannot handle taking care of the planet, so someone needs to. our planet is being destroyed. next time you're in your car driving down the highway, take a minute and think about how it used to be trees.. and it used to be clean.. and there wasn't any litter. take a minute and think about how we were given a beautiful wonderful planet, and it has been destroyed by us. 

do you disagee? do you honestly think we're doing an okay job at taking care of this planet?  because we arent. you dont even need to do research to see that things that were once beautiful and lustrous forests are now a local shopping mall, or better yet, empty buildings with nothing in them. yeah, we're doing a great job.

its been quite some time..

well, its been a crazy past month. i quit my job.. with the economy being so shitty, i know its probably an insane idea.. but we're leaving GA for VA in a few weeks.

i'll be leaving first, on the 6th of february, and daniel will be up after me after he gets his car working properly.  i can't really believe that i'm leaving GA. i've been here for over 10 years, although it is constantly pointed out to me that "i dont have any distinguishing accent." which is true. i have a newscaster accent, as do most of the people in northern VA.  VA is a southern state, however we dont sound like it i guess.

things will be good once we can get our lives started. thats what i'm most excited about. getting married, having some kids.. and enjoying life.  although, i am seriously enjoying this unemployment thing.

i really hate to say that, but it is so nice to relax. i have been busting my ass at work for the past 5 years, with some reward, but not really anything to scream about. not to mention i have had to deal with some of the worst people in the universe. EVERYONE goes to the grocery store. crackheads, snobby rich people, trashy gross people, everyone. and it is ridiculous. but before i get bitter i just want to say.. all of the people that have given me grief over the past years have really taught me how to be patient. through working there, i have learned how to smile and cut someone down.
