dear planet earth, I'm Sorry. XOXO mindy.

something has been bothering me for a while now.. and i guess im just now getting around to addressing it.
the planet is in such a sad state. i look around at parking lots and empty buildings and think "those used to be trees many many years ago." we are ruining this planet, and it makes me unhappy. we wonder why things happen, and its because of us. we are causing these awful things to happen to our planet, because we are disrupting the natural process of things.

one thing that drives me crazy is: "if global warming is real, then why is it so cold right now?!" first of all, global warming is climate change. climate change is extreme temperature changes in hot and cold. secondly, just because it is cold here, doesnt mean it is cold everywhere. there is an entire OTHER HEMISPHERE that is experiencing extreme heat right now.  the planet earth is not just the united states, contrary to what many people believe. if the temperature here shifts to hot, then obviously the cold will shift as well.. and now that it is record lows HERE, expect record HIGHs on the OTHER HALF OF THE PLANET.

is global warming real? yes. climate change is real.  Climate change IS a natural part of the environment, HOWEVER, humans aren't helping our planet out at all. we NEED to take care of the environment. many people believe global warming is bullshit and just another form of government control.. but here's the thing.. we OBVIOUSLY cannot handle taking care of the planet, so someone needs to. our planet is being destroyed. next time you're in your car driving down the highway, take a minute and think about how it used to be trees.. and it used to be clean.. and there wasn't any litter. take a minute and think about how we were given a beautiful wonderful planet, and it has been destroyed by us.

do you disagee? do you honestly think we're doing an okay job at taking care of this planet?  because we arent. you dont even need to do research to see that things that were once beautiful and lustrous forests are now a local shopping mall, or better yet, empty buildings with nothing in them. yeah, we're doing a great job.
i have a friend on facebook that is constantly posting about how global warming is fake, and climate change is natural.. and i am not a person that argues, so i let it go. some people are too narrow minded to understand another persons point of view.. but this same person will tell me or anyone else that im going to hell for X and Y. well lets stop for a minute and reflect.

i dont generally post about religion or other touchy subjects, but dammit im getting sick of it now. God [or, for arguements sake, whatever higher power you believe in,] has given us a beautiful planet full of animals and plants and lovely things.. and look what we have done to it. take a minute and look around. sure, there are forests and things around here, and those are protected by our governement [how sad is that???? we can't just let a forest stand, it has to be protected.] desertification is happening throughout Africa [thats right, there is a whole planet outside of the united states.. jsut because you dont see global warming, doesnt mean it isnt happening.] and the ice caps are slowly melting. couple that with the fact that we are burning natural resources faster than the planet can produce them [hello: oil, FRESH WATER.] and we wonder why we have natural disasters. i am in no way taking away from the tragedy in Haiti. My heart breaks for the people that live there, and for friends and family here that cannot contact their families. seriously.

however, we are burning and using and cutting and planting and WASTING. we are a cancer to our planet. dont ask yourself why God [or, whatever you believe in..] is punishing us.. or why God let this happen, its because WE did this to ourselves. we did this to our planet. one thing i dont like, its passing the blame to someone else..

lets hold ourselves accountable. i drink plenty of water. and take long showers. and have a car that gets really terrible gas mileage. i dont recycle. these are things i know i need to change. we all need to look at how much we are wasting. take a look next time you buy something and see how many pieces of garbage one thing produces. like those delicious lunchables: 1. plastic container they come in 2. plastic cover on top 3. juice box. 4. desert wrapper. how long do those things take to biodegrade?? im not saying carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, but hold yourself accountable. dont blame someone else because our planet is looking like crap. we need a massive overhaul. physically and spiritually!

i have spent so much time reflecting on this poor planet and praying for peace on earth. praying that the planet wont swallow us up into nothing. underneath our earth's crust is magma.. and i fear that one day we will all be sucked into it.. we have no one to blame but ourselves. we have to hold ourselves accountable for what is happening to this planet.

how many times have you passed empty office buildings? our decadent lifestyle has become impossible for the planet to maintain. we need big houses and big cars and lots of money and lots of food to waste. i would see ladies every day at work buying two shopping carts worth of food for their family of four.. how much recycling do they do? well, i've never seen those ladies dumping stuff off in the recycling bin outside of publix.. and i've been to their websites where they discuss hoarding so much food that they dont know what to do with it all. think of the garbage and waste they produce. its disgusting. i know in my apartment with TWO people we have a lot of garbage and not even that much food! i'm not saying live in a hut and eat berries for the rest of your life. God knows, i love meat and i will never give it up. some animals are made to be food [sorry PETA. i love animals though. i respect them. and i thank them for giving me such delicious food.] BUT, dont buy more than you can eat, and dont live extravagantly! you have a multimillion dollar house? i'm happy for you! please dont think that just because you're rich, you're exempt from helping out the environment. if everyone did one small thing, we could all see a change in the planet.

SO. if the government wants to help out the planet, i say go for it. go for it hardcore. why not make recycling mandatory? why not charge people a fine if they dont recycle? why not let the governement come up with alternative fuel sources? Where is YOUR closest recycling center & how often do you go? we are putting foreign objects into the earth, and we are a cancer to this planet. we were not put on this earth to destroy it. can you imagine if you gave a child a most precious gift, and they smashed it right in front of you? can you imagine if it happened every time you gave a child something beautiful? if we are God's children, then we should all be in time out right now.

it saddens me to know that so many people think that people who care about the environment are insane. and in my experience, most of the people that have told me that global warming is bullshit have been extremely religious.. which confuses me at this point.

how can you in one breath tell me that you dont think anything is wrong with the planet, and then tell me how much you love God? you CANT. if you truely did, you would understand that we have a responsibility to God to take care of our planet. He did not give us this planet for us to mess up. He gave us this planet so that we could flourish and spread love.  HE is now sitting back and watching us destroy everything He worked so hard to build.

its like a sad reality show.  instead of loving everyone, we have decided to hate. Kill people, fight in wars, murder and destroy.. for what? not for God! thats not the plan. wake up.

we have to save the planet in order to bring peace back to our lives.

if you've stumbled upon this, and disagree.. then by all means, please let me know. i would love to hear an opposing point to "we need to save the environment."

here is my point: we need to take responsibility for our actions, and start treating our planet better. Earth is not your mom. Earth isnt always going to be there for you through thick and thin, despite your bad decisions... the planet doesnt know us or care about us. its a natural thing. a human receiving an organ transplant must take pills to fool its body for the rest of their life.. because if they dont, the brain will see the new organ as a foreign body and destroy it. if the human body can do that, then im pretty sure the planet can do that too.

maybe cutting down and replanting trees is a bad idea. maybe drilling through the earth's crust to get sweet precious oil is a bad idea.  maybe everyone and their mom in a car going to the exact same place is a bad idea. maybe not recycling is a bad idea.  [say maybe, but i mean.. yes.. it is a bad idea.]

could you imagine a world with no pollution? no "heavy smog days" a world where we recycle? a world where ducks dont get caught in soda rings?

wouldn't it be nice?
i'm not saying i'm perfect. i dont bring my reusable bags to the grocery store every time, like i should.. i dont recycle [mainly because, i dont know where to bring aluminum cans...] like i said. we all need to take a look at our own lives and think about the small changes we can make for this planet. AFTER ALL, it was a gift given to us. and even if you're an atheist... the planet is still YOUR HOME. you wouldnt want your house covered in garbage right? so dont cover my planet with garbage. ]<

my new *life* resolution is to help the environment more. call me a tree hugging hippie, but at least im trying.

xoxo
