As I said last time, i decided to do the impossible task of creating a quilt. so i decided to share my work in progress, maybe to inspire someone else to make a quilt. it is pretty time consuming and challenging, but overall it is totally worth the work. i can see my quilt coming together nicely, and it just pushes me to keep going. :]
my playlist for quilting:
white zombie: more human than human
rammstein: du hast
lady gaga: everything
ke$ha: your love is my drug & tik tok
led zeppelin: everything
metallica: everything
and OF COURSE
LOVE GUN.
I started out with a bagillion of these. 4 and 1/2" squares (give or take, i REALLY hate measuring.. some of them are kind of rectangles.) My grandma told me this would be the easiest type of quilt to make, so.. here we go. it took me FOREVER to cut out the pieces.. i cut up 5 yards of black and around 3 yards of yellow.. just FYI, the finished quilt dimensions should be around 7 and 1/2 feet around.. yeah. its going to be giant. before i redid the pattern, it was around ELEVEN FEET. so needless to say, i am really glad that i decided to shrink the pattern up. :]
okay. moving on
once the impossible task of cutting the squares was over, i pinned the corners together (right sides in, if you have a fabric with a print :]]) and sewed them up. (1/4" seam allowance -- via my grandma. that way the squares IN THEORY should be 4".. mine are not. lol)
Check it out! WORK IN PROGRESS. i work so hard with it. :]] the fabric is really tough. :[ I have also bent up about thirty thousand pins.. so thats always a fun noise to hear. >:/
This is what you will end up with. a super awesome long row. (you can see a pile of them in the corner.)
To note: my grandma is an iron maniac and presses the seams pretty much every time she sews two squares together. i am lazy. i press the seams once the row is complete, and then once again when i attach the row.
now you can see how crappy i am at measuring, but its all good, because they'll disappear once i attach the row. :]]]
Here is my work so far! some of my rows aren't attached, but they will be!
can you hear the legend of zelda music in your head? i can :]]
I'll post more when i get to the next steps. i have everything drawn out, so hopefully it comes out the way i think it will in my head. :]]]
OKAY so thats my work in progress with my grandma's instructions. :] it was taking me about an hour to do a row, but i have it down to about a half hour. still a long time, but i'm getting better! next up.. i dont know..
i'm doing this quilt for matthew :]] he's really excited about the quilt too.. although the dog loves it too. :]]
i'm trying to come up with an idea for my next quilt.. i'm trying to think of something neat to do.. i'm thinking black with a big red heart or something awesome like that. :]]] my grandma was right! i'm glad i didn't start with a teeshirt quilt, and i started with something awesome.
xoxo
